Basic Life Support (BLS) comprises essential techniques that can save lives in case of an emergency such as road crash, cardiac arrest, choking, bleeding, and fracture etc. Purpose of BLS to stabilize condition of victim, prevent further harm and save life of victim. If someone knows about BLS then he/she can act immediately if some emergency arises and act to save life of victim before arrival of medical help.
Undoubtedly, everyone should learn BLS except children because they are unable to act and take decision in case of emergency. An adolescent having required physical and mental ability can start learning the procedure of BLS.
There is no need-to-know medical jargons to learn BLS. When there is question of life and death, then a person should rather know “what not to do”. The procedure of BLS is made for all and not limited to the medical or nursing staff.
Duration of BLS course depends upon the content covered in the training. However, the duration of the course designed by State Road Safety Cell, Department of Transport and Road Safety offered at BLS Training Centres is of one full day.
The participants will be provided with a kit comprising stationery, BLS Manual and relevant IEC material. Upon successful completion of the course, the participants would be awarded certificate of participation having validity of two years from date of issue. Refreshment and lunch would be provided at the BLS Training Centre.
Yes, one can teach BLS skills to others as well for example to one’s friends and family members. But if someone wishes to conduct training on regular basis then it is recommended to participate in Training of Trainer (ToT) program whenever it is scheduled.
At present BLS Training Centres are being run by the State Road Safety Cell, Department of Transport and Road Safety in Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur. To enrol for a course and book your slot you may register online here.
